LORTAB- hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen tablet

Call your doctor right away if you have confusion, drowsiness, fever, a general feeling of illness, a headache, loss of appetite, nausea, a stiff neck or back, or vomiting. These could be symptoms of a serious condition called aseptic meningitis. Using this medicine while you are pregnant may cause neonatal withdrawal syndrome in your newborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if your baby has an abnormal sleep pattern, diarrhea, a high-pitched cry, irritability, shakiness or tremors, weight loss, vomiting, or fails to gain weight.

Hydrocodone and ibuprofen (oral route)

Read the Medication Guide and, if available, the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start taking this medication and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Remember, keep this and all other medicines out of the reach of children, never share your medicines with others, and use Lortab only for the indication prescribed.

Babies born to mothers who use this drug for a long time may develop severe (possibly fatal) withdrawal symptoms. Do not stop taking hydrocodone without talking to your doctor. Suddenly stopping this medication may cause withdrawal, especially if you have used it for a long time or in high doses.

International Patients

  1. Your doctor may want you to gradually reduce the amount you are using before stopping it completely.
  2. When hydrocodone is used for a long time, it may become habit-forming, causing mental or physical dependence.
  3. Your blood pressure might get too high while you are using this medicine.
  4. Take this medication exactly as prescribed to lower the risk of addiction.
  5. It should not be used if you need pain medicine for just a short time, such as when recovering from surgery.

Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of hydrocodone in the elderly. Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially slow/shallow breathing. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy or drowsy.

This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another condition unless your doctor directs you to do so. Daily alcohol use, especially when combined with acetaminophen, may damage your liver. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and includes only common medications that may interact with Lortab.

Skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take more than one dose of hydrocodone extended-release capsules in 12 hours or extended-release tablets in 24 hours. This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. This medicine may cause sleep-related breathing problems (eg, sleep apnea, sleep-related hypoxemia). Your doctor may decrease your dose if you have sleep apnea (stop breathing for short periods during sleep) while using this medicine.

Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting may occur when you get up suddenly from a lying or sitting position. Also, lying down for a while may relieve dizziness or lightheadedness. If you feel that the medicine is not working as well, do not use more than your prescribed dose.

Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking hydrocodone. Using too much of this medicine may cause infertility (unable to have children) and may cause a delay in ovulation for women and may affect their ability to have children. Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you plan to have children.
