At that time, no treatment options existed other than local hospital emergency rooms for the 10% of the population affected by substance use disorders. The decriminalization of alcoholism in Massachusetts in the early 1970s—a legislative initiative spearheaded by CASPAR’s founders— reinforced CASPAR’s recognition that people with substance use disorders require treatment, not incarceration. Teras is located two miles away from Tharros (both Tharros and Teras are in Lexington MA). This less structured residence is designed to support clients when they have 25+ hours of work or other outside structure weekly, which can be developed with assistance from our team, in the first 30 days. It was during one of these periods that she found out about CASPAR’s Woman Place program, and she caught a break when a bed opened up sooner than expected.

As part of our community, clients can participate in over 25 hours of structure offered every week at Tharros, including morning sober house meetings Monday through Friday, our 12-step immersion group, music groups, spiritual groups, and recovery work groups. We also include fun social events, like our weekly BBQ and bowling nights. Clients also learn life skills through one on one mentoring and fun events, like cooking with exceptional private chefs! Also included, our community offers activities, like weekend rock climbing, golf, and basketball. On Saturdays, clients can participate in engagement activities, like trampoline dodgeball, go-kart racing, and escape room challenges.

We provide a structured environment for recovering addicts to begin living their lives clean and sober outside the confines of a drug treatment center or detention center. Boston Sober Homes is a M.A.S.H certified sober housing company for those who are serious about their recovery and sobriety. Our mission is to provide clean, comfortable accommodations in a positive environment for those looking to live a sober lifestyle. Our homes and their atmospheres are nurtured by the guests they provide for. Supportive living in a structured environment such as a sober living house has proven in many cases to be the element that enables individuals to embrace the process of recovery.

At Tharros, we offer semi-private to fully private ensuite accommodation. Tharros House is a private peer program which is not affiliated with any state or federal offerings. Testimonials are available on our site, and we are happy to connect you with families and past clients who can share their experience with you. We take privacy seriously, and client information is not shared with any outside sources, except those affiliated with treatment, or which the client otherwise requests.

At Chelsea’s House, We Give You Our Experience, Compassion & Commitment

Our team connects with each client’s clinical providers to help understand what supports are needed before he arrives at Tharros. At Teras, clients work with their on-site case manager and our vocational coach to develop a recovery fellowship and engage work. Clients of Teras may also be involved in outpatient treatment while they develop a foundation in their recovery work, and apply to work positions. After 30 days, clients are expected to be employed while they continue progress in their recovery work. They continue to meet with their case manager weekly and participate in community support activities. CASPAR (Cambridge And Somerville Programs for Addiction Recovery)—a part of Bay Cove Human Services—is a community-based non-profit organization founded in 1970 in response to growing community need for substance abuse treatment.

Tharros House, located steps away from the center of Lexington, spans 4 levels with almost 8000 square feet of living space. All client guest rooms at Tharros are equipped with queen sized Serta Presidential Euro-top premium mattresses and high thread count linens. At Tharros House, we take a custom approach to each client, starting with a full understanding of each client’s needs and goals.

Teras, our flexible structure home, offers a lower cost model for those ready to return to work, and who have their own transportation. Andrea came from a family with a history of addiction, and had been in and out of detox several times due to struggles with heroin. She suffered through a series of precarious living situations, including periods of homelessness. Each guest can expect a clean bed, sufficient clothing storage, HDTV w/ cable and free wifi in every room inside a clean, well maintained home cared for by the guests who stay there! Our homes are smoke free but there are plenty of designated outdoor smoking areas. For others, after 1-6 months at Tharros, clients may choose to transition to Teras. Amenities include on site laundry, air conditioning, parking, full kitchens, living/dining rooms and quick access to public transportation. Teras does not provide transportation, but you may have a car, and ubers are readily available.
